Trauma and Chronic Illness therapist in Boulder, CO

You know what it took to get here, now you get to decide what comes next

Whether you’re living with trauma, chronic illness, or other overwhelming experiences, what’s visible is only part of your story. You don’t have to justify your pain or convince me that it’s real. I’m here to listen and understand the whole of your experience.

You learned to keep going…

You experienced something overwhelming. Perhaps you come from an abusive upbringing, you escaped a harmful relationship, or another experience that has left your nervous system in survival mode. Perhaps you received a health diagnosis that changed how your days look, how you see yourself, or has you questioning what’s next.

You smile, nod along in conversations, and push through your days. But underneath that facade, you feel a deep exhaustion. Scary images or thoughts occupy your mind. You run through every what if scenario possible and stay alert to when things may take a turn. You try to avoid thoughts, people, or places that remind you of the struggle. But then, you start experiencing your days from a distance. You feel detached from others in your life, perhaps even yourself. You may feel confusion, anger, grief, or fear. You may blame yourself and wonder “why can’t I just get over it”. As a result of the pressure, you may lash out at others. You may shut down. You may drink or use substances to escape the pain. You may be questioning why or “what’s the point”.

Meet Anna Constancia, LPC

Trauma and chronic illness therapist in Boulder, CO

There’s more to your story than what people can see, and more strength in you than you may realize.

Trauma is clever, and so are you.

Overwhelming experiences can leave us questioning everything. But when the rules change, you find new ways to play. You adapt. You get creative. You find ways to keep going when the path changes course. That’s not weakness, that’s resilience at work!

If you’re reading this, something in you has decided that something needs to be different. Here’s where I can help. I can help you get a better understanding of yourself and your experiences so you can act sooner. I can help you find ways to calm and understand the anxiety and emotional intensity. I can help you gain trust in your instincts and learn compassion for yourself. I can help you establish and maintain boundaries that will help you feel safer. I will help you move out of survival mode and be held hostage by fear.

Life doesn’t have to be about just getting through. It is possible to feel joy, real connection to others, and turn despair into hope.
